MEN'S TENNIS BSU faces Indiana State

Ball State is finally getting done with its out-of-conferenceschedule. The Cardinals are more than halfway done with theirconference schedule, and still they are traveling to Terre Haute toface Indiana State.

The Cardinals (9-11, 3-0 in the Mid-American Conference) arefacing the Sycamores (5-11), but coach Bill Richards said that, despite the team's record, ISU may be a challenge.

"Indiana State started off the year losing a lot of matches. Toa degree, they've been in a little bit of a similar situation asus," he said. "They played a very tough schedule and took somelosses, and now they're getting in their schedule and winningmatches."

Indiana State added a number of players to the team in January, which Richards cites as possibly causing some of their earlyproblems.

"They're improving," he said. "They had a whole bunch of playerscome in in January, and it's always difficult when players come inin January and had to play good tennis ... I think they're betterthan their record."

After scoring a quick win over IPFW Saturday, the Cardinalsstruggled against Buffalo before escaping with a 6-1 win.

"(ISU's) playing at a much higher level now, and we're going tohave to play a lot better than we did (against Buffalo)," hesaid.

This is the Cardinals next-to-last nonconference match. TheCardinals recently added University of Indianapolis to theirschedule for April 14, their next-to-last match before the MACChampionship.
