Arrest made in Harford investigation

Suspect charged with aiding fugitive, could face four years

Muncie Police filed charges Wednesday against a woman whom they suspect helped to hide the man wanted in connection with the death of Ball State student Karl Harford.

Bridget Brannon, 25, is charged with aiding a fugitive and faces up to four years in jail. Muncie Police Chief Joe Winkle said Brannon helped Damien B. Sanders, 22, elude police for almost two weeks after Harford's death. He said investigators believe she drove him to Louisville, Ky., and then helped him rent a room at a Days Inn in Indianapolis.

Sgt. Steve Cox said that the amount of time Brannon spent with Sanders after Harford's death was substantial. He also said charges could be filed against other individuals that helped Sanders hide during that time.

Cox said Brannon is a "possible girlfriend" to Sanders.

Muncie Police announced the search for Sanders on March 9. The announcement came two days after Harford's body was found on the east side of Muncie, and a day after Brandon Patterson, 18, and a juvenile turned themselves in. Patterson and the juvenile are accused of participating in the shooting death of Harford.

The search for Sanders lasted nine days. On March 15, U.S. Marshals found Sanders alone in his room at a Days Inn motel on 38th Street and High School Road in Indianapolis. He was arrested and charged with murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Patterson has received the same charges as Sanders. Both have pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The juvenile has been charged with assisting a criminal. A hearing will be held next month to determine whether he can be tried as an adult.
