THE TEMPORAL FRONT: Presidential race coverage causes distrust of media

Its only March, and I'm tired of the presidential electionalready.

John F. Kerry, the presumed democrat candidate, has spent thelast three months attacking the president on everything from thewar in Iraq to the claim that America has lost more than 2 millionjobs.

Every time he speaks, he brings up Vietnam. He contrasts hishighly decorated service with President Bush's National Guardservice. The implication, of course, is that Bush's service in theTexas National Guard (for which he received an honorabledischarge), was nothing more than draft dodging. It doesn't matterthat there are witnesses to the fact Bush wanted to go to Vietnamand asked about serving there, but he wasn't eligible to serve.

It doesn't seem to matter that Kerry left Vietnam early on atechnicality, and once he returned to the States, he joined "Hanoi"Jane Fonda in some of the most despicable protests against ourmilitary personnel to ever be organized. It doesn't seem to matterthat young Mr. Kerry gave false testimony before the Congress, during which he accused soldiers of widespread and unspeakableatrocities.

It doesn't seem to matter that Kerry voted against increasemilitary pay and increased defense spending nearly every time thatsuch a vote came forward. It doesn't seem to matter that he votedagainst many of the major weapons systems that keep our fightingmen and women safe, and well armed to this day.

It doesn't seem to matter that Kerry missed almost every singlevote that occurred this year. He spent more time campaigning forthe presidency than doing his job.

It doesn't seem to matter that Kerry recently attacked thepresident for not providing body armor to troops in the Iraqicampaign, this coming after Kerry voted against the bill grantingfunds to support those troops.

The media have remained remarkably silent about these simpletruths. They have given Kerry coverage when he attacks those whowould dare question his abysmal voting record. They gave extensivecoverage to those who claimed Bush was AWOL during his service, butlittle note has been made of Kerry's despicable associations andbehavior during the exact same period of time.

The media have continued to jump up and down touting the claimthat the Bush administration has resulted in the loss of more than2 million jobs, despite the fact that those numbers are completelymisleading, and do not account for jobs created in small businessesand in the agriculture sector.

There are claims from both sides of the political spectrum thatthe media are biased. Those on the left claim that because mostmedia outlets are owned by "evil" corporations, surely they mustserve their corporate masters, reporting only what is pleasing tothem. People on the right recognize that corporations do not carewhat their employees do, as long as it turns a profit for thecorporation, meaning that the left leanings of those in thejournalism profession shine through in their reporting.

This is why I do not trust the media. I prefer to find my ownnews from multiple sources so that I know what is really going on,not just what the elitist press thinks I should know. I encourageyou to do the same.
