NCAA REGIONALS Divers compete this weekend at NCAA Regionals

Two Ball State divers will be competing this weekend at the NCAAZone C Diving Regionals at Indiana University this weekend.

Ryan Plantz and Cassandra Pavlovich, both juniors, willrepresent Ball State for the first time in both the one-meter andthree-meter diving events. Plantz earned seven first-placefinishes, four second-places, and two third-places during the2003-2004 season. Pavlovich finished with nine first-placefinishes, six second-places and five third-places.

Plantz qualified Nov. 14 against IUPUI and St. Louis, and Nov.15 Michigan State on Saturday. Pavlovich qualified Jan. 16 againstValparaiso and Jan. 17 against Toledo.

Men's coach Bob Thomas and women's coach Laura Seibold-Caudillhope the two gain experience in the regionals.

"It'll be a great experience for (Plantz)," Thomassaid. "The first time you go, you go for experience. The secondtime you go, your chances of finishing in the top (and advancing)are better. You need to go at least once to experience thecompetition."

Divers from the Big Ten and from schools around the Midwest willbe competing for six spots to advance to the NCAA Championshipsheld starting on March 25 at East Meadow, N.Y. Thomas said the twowill be "diving against the best."

"She's certainly got her work cut out forher," Seibold-Caudill said.
