MEN'S BASKETBALL Trammell named MAC West Division Player of the Week

The Mid-American Conference office named Ball State's Dennis Trammell as MAC West Division Player of the Week on Monday. It is the junior guard's first such honor and the second time this season a Ball State player has received it. Matt McCollom was honored on Jan. 19 after his game-winning 3-pointer at Miami.

On Tuesday, Trammell scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds as the Cardinals nipped Marshall 79-78. His jumper with 51 seconds remaining put BSU ahead for good. In Saturday's win at Bowling Green he contributed 10 points and eight boards as the Cards won 81-71.

With the two victories, Ball State secured a first-round home game for the MAC Tournament on Monday.

"It was kind of surprising," said Trammell, who is averaging a team-best 12.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. "It shows that we're still there and fighting (for a better seeding). It gives us a little recognition."
