Endowment helps award six $50,000 grants

Ball State is awarding $50,000 grants to six new or existing programs in 2004-2005 through the Innovative Academic Programs Endowment. The grants will be used to help establish new research centers, academic programs or ventures with potential business spinoffs.

The endowment was created from funding accumulated during Above and Beyond, the Campaign to Advance Ball State University. The campaign, which ended in 2002, raised about $113 million.

In the coming months, the grants will be used to create the Recording Center of Excellence in the College of Fine Arts, which will link the School of Music with the commercial recording industry.

Grants will be used to also create the Workplace Wellness program in the College of Applied Sciences and Technology. The program will emphasize research on health and wellness issues, and will focus on establishing relationships with the business community.
