After a successful weekend against Eastern Michigan, the women's swimming and diving team turns its attention toward this weekend, when it plays host to Illinois-Chicago on Friday and visits Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green on Saturday.

UIC holds a 5-5 overall record and 2-3 in the Horizon League. Last week at the Bill Ritter Invitational, the team finished fourth of five teams. Caitlin Carey was the lone winner for the Flames, taking the 1-meter diving event. Carey also finished third in the 3-meter event. Jessica Darud finished second in the 100 back, and Kelly Hyatt finished fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free.

Bowling Green enters the weekend at 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the MAC. Against MAC opponent Ohio -- a team Ball State lost to earlier in the season -- the Falcons fell just short of an upset, falling 155-145. The Falcons showed strength in the sprinting and diving events, as Stephanie Buckner (50 and 100 free), Erin Dilkes (100 and 200 breast), and Molly Peterson (1- and 3-meter diving) led the way with victories.

Sarah Agnew also had a big meet, finishing second in the 100 and 200 breast, as well as in the 200 IM.

Bowling Green finished with six first-places and nine seconds, including two top-three performances in the 50 free and 3-meter diving.

The Cardinals defeated Eastern Michigan last weekend, 162-138. The victory came much easier than expected, said coach Laura Seibold-Caudill. The Cardinals finished with 30 top-three finishes for the meet, including three events in which the Cardinals swept the top three places.

Seibold-Caudill has counted on senior leadership throughout the season.

"The seniors have really come through for us this season -- Jamie VanNess, Emily Aubie, Jessica Nance. Every one of our seniors has stepped up," she said.

Fatigue has become a factor as the season has worn on, but the team has developed a desire to win, Seibold-Caudill said.

"I think it's hard to compete when you're tired," she said. "If we keep it going, we could have a really successful championship meet."

Ball State enters the weekend with an 8-4 overall record and 2-3 in the MAC. The Cards have not lost since mid-November, a five-meet winning streak.
