Housing expo offers chance to price-shop

Students searching for a place to live next year can explore their options at Ball State's first housing expo.

The Residential Property Management Association is sponsoring the event from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the Student Center Ballroom.

"The expo is a sort of one-stop shopping event where students can discuss living arrangements with several different leasing agents and landlords," Residential Property Management member Sarah Atkinson said.

The housing expo will consist of apartment communities within the surrounding Ball State area. They will have booths set-up to answer questions about costs and living conditions.

"Not only will students save time running from community to community as they shop for housing, but this expo will also allow them to compare and price shop communities in order to find the best fit," Logan Hindsley of Windermere apartments said.

Residential Property Management organized the event because they believed it was necessary, Atkinson said.

"We felt that there is a need for students to find housing easier," Atkinson said.

The apartment representatives at the expo will offer affordable and accessible housing, she said.

Cost is another incentive for coming to the housing expo.

"The expo will allow businesses to offer their products to an array of students at a very low cost," Hindsley said.

In addition to cost, off-housing campus also provides other benefits to students.

"Students can get a greater sense of independence through off-campus housing," Atkinson said.

Hindsley said Residential Property Management hopes to make the housing expo an annual event.

"We want to continue doing this so that we can assist students in finding housing for years to come," Hindsley said. "Students should eat this opportunity up. This is the only chance for students to 'one stop shop' for housing during the next school year."
