Adams hospitalized after suffering chest pains

Muncie Democrat remained in hospital Wednesday night

Tiny Adams, Muncie Democrat and member of the Indiana House of Representatives, was taken to an Indianapolis hospital Wednesday after complaining about chest pains during a committee meeting in downtown Indianapolis.

Adams began to feel sick while he was meeting with the Committee on Ways and Means, which exercises jurisdiction on matters ranging from economic policy to international trade, according to House media representatives contacted by NewsLink Indiana. When Adams went to see the House "doctor for the day," he learned the doctor's arrival had been delayed because of the icy weather, the representatives said.

Shortly after, an ambulance took Adams to the Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, where he remained in the emergency room for several hours before being moved to a private room.

Doctors did not know why Adams had been experiencing chest pains and thus planned to keep him in the hospital overnight to complete several observations and tests, the media representatives said. The hospital reported Adams in good condition, however, and planned to release him Thursday, they said.

Adams, first elected to the General Assembly in 1996, represents Democrat House district 34, which includes central Muncie as well as one precinct in Hamilton Township.

Nancy Carlson, chairwoman of the telecommunications department, said Adams has been an asset to the Ball State community and said she appreciates his commitment to the university.

"Tiny's a great guy," Carlson said. "He has helped Ball State on numerous occasions. Ball State appreciates him for all the support he has given us over the years, and we all wish him a quick recovery."

While the Methodist Hospital was contacted Wednesday night, it did not release an update on Adams' situation. Adams was later contacted in his private room, though he did not provide any additional information on his condition.

"I'm not taking any calls, " Adams said.
