WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals welcome Redbirds

Ball State looks to continue current three-game winning streak against Illinois

The Ball State Cardinals and the Illinois State Redbirds meet onTuesday night, and the game will feature a family reunion. Newlyadded assistant coach Stephanie White will face her sister StaceyWhite, a forward at Illinois State.

Stephanie White, the 1999 NCAA Player of the Year and IndianaFever team member, won't play against her sister, but she will becoach the opposition.

Stacey White has been a threat so far this season. In theirfirst game against the Air Force Academy, she was five for ninefrom behind the arch.

Last season she led the team in three-point field goalsmade.

Ball State will be the second Mid-American Conference team to goagainst the Redbirds (1-1) this season. On Saturday they lost toWestern Michigan 79-57. Their performance was quite different fromtheir opener, which they won 85-49.

The Redbirds have very good guard play and have been shootingthe three a lot this season. In their first two games, the teamshot 58 threes, including 41 in the first game, in which theyconverted 11.

Junior Katie Donovan, who is averaging 16.5 points per game,leads the team.

They have one 6-5 post player that has not been playing manyminutes but still could give the Cardinals some trouble.

"I think we match up pretty well with them except for her," headcoach Tracy Roller said.

This past weekend against Eastern Washington, the Cardinals hada good showing on defense in the first half, but they had troublecontinuing that effort in the second half, and Eastern Washingtonoutscored them 44-30.

Converting on the offensive end this season has not been aproblem for the Cardinals. They are averaging 78.2 points per game.Senior Johna Goff and junior Kate Endress have led the team thepast three games. At the East Carolina Thanksgiving Tournament,Endress was the named the Tournament MVP after scoring 41 points intwo games. Goff was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring31.

"I feel really solid about our offense still," Roller said.

The Cardinals will go into their sixth game this season. Thelast three games were played within five days of each other, butRoller said she is not concerned with fatigue. Instead, she saidshe thinks the number of games the Cardinals played will benefitthem.

"We've learned a lot from last weekend to this weekend," Rollersaid.
