%3Cp%3EThe+chief+deputy+prosecutor+in+Delaware+County+is+withholding+information+from+students+about+a+sensitive+Ball+State+issue.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EJ.+A.+Cummins+told+The+Star+Press+that+a+grand+jury+will+decide+if+criminal+charges+should+be+brought+against+officer+Robert+Duplain+in+the+shooting+of+Ball+State+University+student+Michael+McKinney.+%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3ECummins+seems+to+have+had+no+desire+to+inform+any+other+media+source+--+specifically%2C+a+source+at+Ball+State.+When+the+DAILY+NEWS+contacted+Cummins+for+comment%2C+he+refused+to+offer%2C+confirm+or+deny+any+facts.+%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3E%22Everything+I+have+to+say+was+in+a+press+release+sent+to+the+Muncie+%28Star+Press%29+newspaper%2C%22+Cummins+said.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3ECummins+also+refused+to+send+a+copy+of+the+press+release+he+sent+The+Star+Press+to+the+%3CI%3EDaily+News%3C/I%3E.+Prosecutor+Richard+Reed+did+not+return+phone+calls+after+multiple+attempts+to+reach+him.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EOnly+13+percent+of+students+read+the+Star+Press+three+or+more+days+a+week%2C+according+to+a+Ball+State+%3CI%3EDaily+News%3C/I%3E+survey+of+student+marketing+and+demographics.+Less+than+20+percent+listen+to+a+Muncie-based+radio+station.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EBut+73+percent+read+the+%3CI%3EDaily+News%3C/I%3E+three+or+more+days+a+week.+%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3ECummins%27+methods+make+no+sense.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EIt%27s+important+for+at+least+one+Muncie-based+publication+to+carry+the+news.+After+all%2C+Ball+State+is+a+part+of+Muncie.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EHowever%2C+the+McKinney+shooting+is+primarily+and+immediately+a+Ball+State+issue.+There+is+no+reason+why+Cummins+should+withhold+such+sensitive+and+timely+information+from+the+people+who+need+to+know+it+most.+But+by+refusing+to+answer+questions+from+the+campus+newspaper%2C+he+is+doing+just+that.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3ERepresentatives+at+the+prosecutor%27s+office%2C+like+Cummins%2C+are+public+servants%2C+and+they+should+be+held+accountable+to+the+tax-paying+public.+The+McKinney+shooting+affected+students%27+lives+and+their+community.+They+deserve+to+know+any+information+that+develops.+%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3EAn+organization%2C+such+as+the+prosecutor%27s+office%2C+that+ideally+should+be+trying+to+discover+the+truth+of+a+matter+should+be+doing+everything+it+can+to+make+sure+the+truth+comes+out.+The+best+way+to+discover+the+truth+is+to+ensure+the+free+flow+of+information.%3C/p%3E%0A%3Cp%3ESo+it%27s+time+they+speak+up.+%3C/p%3E
