MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards dominate inside

Echols, Chapman combine for 25 points, 19 rebounds

Who ever said size doesn't matter did not see Ball Statephysically dominate Anderson Wednesday night. Cameron Echols andTerrance Chapman used their size to control the Ravens inside enroute to a 83-48 beating of Anderson.

Chapman led the Cards with 15 points and nine rebounds. Echolsadded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Both playersset season-highs in scoring, and Chapman's nine rebounds gave him aseason-high. Chapman said Ball State tried to used its size againstAnderson.

"I thought it was an advantage for us," Chapman said. "We were alot bigger than them."

Ball State outrebounded Anderson 43 to 30, including a 28-to-18advantage on the defensive boards. The Cardinals had four playerswith at least five or more rebounds.

The Ravens, on the other hand, did not have a player with morethan four rebounds.

Ball State also dominated the Ravens inside the paint, outscoring them 32 to 14.

"Every time we took shots, we just had to crash the offensiveboards and get the putback because they were too little," Echolssaid. "I think that was one of our strategies for the game."

Not only did Ball State pose a physical challenge, but theRavens also could not keep up with the Cardinals' quickness.Anderson head coach Denny Lehnus said Ball State's combination ofstrength and speed helped the Cards break the game wide open.

"They beat us to every loose ball and everything that didn't goin," Lehnus said. "They got to it."

Ball State head coach Tim Buckley said the Cards did a good jobexploiting the inside but said he wants to see it done a lot moreoften.

"That's what we like to be able to do every game, and thatobviously had to be our focus coming off our lack of getting theball inside against Wright State," Buckley said.
