An open forum will be held today to discuss the search for a newuniversity president, and the ideas from the forum could helpdetermine the next president.
The forum is open to students, faculty and community members andwill be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Student Center CardinalHall.
"The most important thing is for members of the search committeeto get perspectives from the university community as to what theywant in a new president," Michael Holmes -- acting dean of theCollege of Communication, Information, and Media and a member ofthe search committee -- said.
The search committee, which Tom DeWeese, Board of Trusteespresident, announced on Nov. 14, will have its first meeting todaybefore the forum at 2 p.m. Since committee members have not yetmet, many specifics regarding the forum, including the format, arestill unknown.
"I don't know anything more than I did the day the Boardpresident announced the members of the committee," Clare Chatot, associate professor in the department of biology and searchcommittee member, said.
The ideas that are generated from this forum will help establishthe criteria that the search committee will use to evaluatecandidates, Holmes said.
Ideally, people from every departments will come, Chatot said. The committee's hope is that students and community members withstrong opinions will attend, she said.
"We would like it to be a wide representation of people," Chatotsaid. "I know it's a very busy time, but we need to hear fromeveryone."
