Linda Clemons said communication is key in relationships

A speaker revealed two of her ingredients Tuesday at Ball Statefor cooking up relationships: money and friends.

Linda Clemons, a Ball State alumna, lectured students aboutempowerment and self-improvement during the presentation of"Mindset of a Woman Dealing with a Man."

Clemons started her discussion by questioning the audience.

"How many of you want to draw money to you?" Clemons asked. "Howmany of you want to be a magnet for love and happiness?

"In order to have healthy relationships, find dynamicfriendships and earn a lot of money. You have to get the rightmindset."

Clemons then said how to become physically and mentallyhealthy.

"When you have issues, you are the problem, not anyone else,"Clemons said. "You must let it go. Why are you keeping trouble inyour life?"

Clemons said communication is the key to healthy relationships. After that, Clemons asked audience members to stand up and giveeach other a massage. Clemons said the audience members who wereafraid to touch someone else were also afraid of communication.

"I thought what she talked about was phenomenal," Kenny Danielssaid. "What she talked about made sense, and I could relate toit."

Sophomore Maria Barhamas said she enjoyed Clemons' advice aboutnutrition as well as her comments about relationships.

"I thought it was enlightening," Barhamas said. "We need to behealthier, and if we go back to natural foods, like she said, wecan be."

After her speech, Clemons asked a panel of three male studentsand three female students to debate different relationshipissues.

"I liked the debates," Barhamas said. "They showed the differentfemale and male perspectives that are common but sometimessuppressed in society."

Alpha Phi Alpha sponsored Clemons' presentation as part of thefraternity's Founder's Week activities.

"I saw Ms. Clemons speak at a leadership conference inIndianapolis, and I thought that she was very effective," JamieWright, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, said. "She talks aboutrelationships and topics that college students can relate to, sothat is why we asked her to come here."
