WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Strong recruiting class could see lot of action in first college season

Three of the four incoming freshmen could start for Cards

The incoming freshmen class for the Ball State women'sbasketball team had trouble adjusting to the fast pace of collegeball at first. However, it didn't take them long to keep up withit.

"The first couple days (of practice) were like 'oh my God,' butnow the adjustments are a lot easier," freshmen guard Kelsey Corbinsaid.

The 5-foot-9-inch Corbin, who averaged 14.3 points a game as asenior at Fort Wayne Northrop, is one of four incoming freshmen onthe women's team. Becca Bajorek, Tina Bolte and Teran Warner arethe other freshmen. Bajorek, the six foot two center, averaged 17.9points and 9.6 rebounds a game as a senior at St. Francis DeSalesof Ohio. Five-foot-seven guard Bolte averaged 18.2 points a game asa senior at Columbus North. Warner, the six-foot-forward fromShenandoah averaged 6.5 points and 7 rebounds a game as asenior.

For many of the freshmen, the transition from high school andcollege was a big change.

"From high school, it was a lot slower pace and I got here itwas quick and go go go," Bajorek said. "But everyone's just pushingus and its making the transition a lot easier."

For the other freshman, the transition from high school andcollege was not a big deal.

"I actually like it. It suits my style of play better," Boltesaid. "I'm more of a runaround person then when in the lower paceof high school. I feel like I'm fitting in better."

The freshmen got a taste of college ball on Nov. 8 when thewomen's team played their first exhibition game against the ReebokLady Stars. Even though the Lady Cards lost, the freshmen (exceptfor Teren Warner who is out with an injury) combined for 15 pointsand seven rebounds. Head Coach Tracy Roller is very excited abouther freshmen class.

"The other three (Corbin, Bajorek and Bolte) could start. They're good," Roller said. "I recruited them to come in and makeimmediate contributions and play immediately."
