LETTER: Ball State should help cope, not place blame

Dear Editor:

People make mistakes. They are a part of life. So who are we tojudge others? We are, obviously, not perfect. Since I first learnedabout the death of Michael McKinney at the hands of Officer RobertDuplain, it seems it has been followed closely by people placingblame. I believe this is unfair to both McKinney and Duplain. TheBall State community is not in a position to determine who was andwas not at fault that Saturday morning. We do not know all thefacts, and we did not witness what happened. The Ball Statecommunity should be focusing on being there to support those whoare trying to cope with this tragic event.

Like others, I have mixed emotions and have formed opinionsabout what happened that Saturday. I am confused why officers whohave not attended the academy can carry guns before they can carrypepper spray, but I don't make the rules, so it is not my job toplace blame.
