The farewell between Ball State football fans and seniorsstarted before the game against Bowling Green on Saturday as eachplayer was introduced and ran across the field.
Linebacker Lorenzo Scott started his final game as a Cardinalafter leading the team in tackles the past three years.
"It kind of sunk in for me when I came off the field for thelast time because I realized that it could be the last time I'llput on a football uniform," Scott said of the final game. Thesenior finished the game with 13 total tackles.
Andy Roesch, who started at quarterback, said the emotionsurrounding the end of his career would hit a month or twolater.
"I think it will sink in around January, February when I knowthe guys are lifting and running," Roesch said. "December is alwayskind of a downtime for us, so it's not going to seem any differentfor me, but when January and spring comes along, it will feeldifferent for me."
Near the end of the game, head coach Brady Hoke removed hissenior defensive players one last time, and the crowd applaudedtheir effort.
Blair's effort a bright spot in loss
Tailback Scott Blair established himself as both a rushing andreceiving threat against the Falcons on Saturday. The junior ledthe Cardinals in each category on the strength of a 26-yard catchand a 42-yard run. The catch marked a season long.
Ridgeway sets single-season record
Wide receiver Dante Ridgeway corralled a pass from Roesch in thefourth quarter on fourth and 10 to break Ball State's receivingyards mark in a single season. The catch and subsequent first downprolonged a drive that cut Bowling Green's lead to seven points.Ridgeway finished the season with 1,075 receiving yards. Theprevious best was Dave Naumcheff's 1,065 receiving yards in1983.
Ridgeway said he was happy about setting the record but didn'tsmile much about it in the postgame interview.
"It's a good thing, but I wanted to do my best to send theseseniors out with a bang, with a win, but unfortunately that didn'thappen," Ridgeway said.
