Student creates forum, event Web site

Gary Bontrager is making a connection, and that connection isgrowing every day.

Approximately a year ago, Bontrager went to the Student Centerwith a friend and started discussing ways for students to be moreinformed about campus and Muncie events.

After further pondering, he decided to develop a Web site forthat purpose. Bontrager decided the Web site needed a chat room, forum and e-mail address so students could discuss issues andconnect with other students who had similar ideas.

"I wanted a site that would bring students closer together,"Bontrager said."There might also be the opportunity to make a newfriend, exchange ideas or maybe even find love."

Although Bontrager knew sites were available for students, BallState students had nothing to call their own.

After searching the other sites, he found that they wereexpensive, he said, and Bontrager wanted to provide a site that wasaffordable on a college budget. So the site was born and namedwww.connectionu.com.

It costs $14.95 per year. About 30 people have subscribed, andit is growing. The site contains a personal profile sectionconsisting of about 10 questions. The links include a BSU calendar, personal ads, information about Bontrager and enrollmentinformation.

"I have a sponsor for the site, " Bontrager said. " Wayne andHis Magic - a local magician." The site also has a link to ModestNeeds that gives assistance to people in emergency situations.
