PROFESSORS IN THE NEWS: New nursing course developed

Kay Hodson-Carlton, a professor in the school of nursing, hasbeen selected as a 2003-2004 University Teaching Professor todevelop a course titled "Health Information: Untangling the MedicalWeb."

The course explores information available on theInternetregarding health issues. It teaches students to evaluate thecredibility of the information found there.

The award is sponsored by Ball State 's Office of Teaching andLearning Advancement along with the Office of the Provost.Recipients of the award are nominated by students and selected by apanel of students and professors who visit the classroom andobserve a class presentation.

Hodson-Carlton is Director of Health Care, Learning ResourceCenter, EdD, RN, FAAN. According to a Ball State press release, thecourse explores, describes and analyzes health information. Thefinal class product might take the form of a collaborative Web pageor a presentation to a targeted community group such as thesenior.net participants at the Muncie Community Center.
