On Thursday, Congressman Mike Pence said a powerful report willbe released this week, proving that U.S. officials found materialsand plans to make biological weapons in Iraq.
"They had established training camps and funding sources," Pencesaid. "There was no intelligence source of any country in the worldthat didn't know (Saddam Hussein) had these weapons."
The Congressman answered students' questions for 20 minutes inMike Goldsby's business, policy and strategy class in the WhitingerBusiness Building.
He said injured soldiers told him that the Iraqi people'sbiggest fear is the U.S. leaving too early.
"I've met extensively with injured soldiers," Pence said. "Whatthey tell me is that the Iraqi people are worried about us leavingtoo soon," Pence said.
Pence voted in favor of the war because "Iraq had become aDisney World for terrorists," he said.
Pence, a member of the Homeland Security Committee, said he knewnothing about the ABC News' report of weak inspections by customsofficials.
The news company shipped a suitcase of depleted uranium acrossEurope and back to New York Harbor. Though the suitcase wasscanned, the uranium wasn't detected.
"I'm surprised that I haven't heard about this," Pence said. "Itwouldn't surprise me if they were successful. There are vulnerablespots in the nation's security. "
Senior Jennifer Dunn said she hoped the Congressman was honestand that he really had not heard of the report.
"I hope that he was telling the truth," she said. "That hedidn't know about it, and he's looking into it."
Pence visit benefited students and the university, Goldsby said.Because of Pence's efforts, the entrepreneurship program acquired a$1 million federal grant to construct the entrepreneurship dynamicslab, Goldsby said.
The computer lab, scheduled to open in spring, will promotegrowth in a program that's ranked 4th in the nation, Goldsbysaid.
"That'll help us move even further," he said. "It will keep usone of the best (programs) in the country."
After visiting entrepreneurship students, Pence spoke to amilitary-science class. He will attend Gov. Frank O'Bannon'smemorial in Indianapolis today.
