Man files lawsuit against football player

LAW

On July 9, Ryan Krause filed a lawsuit against a Ball State football player and Dill Street Bar and Grill.

According to the lawsuit, Krause was at Dill Street Bar and Grill on July 19, 2000, at their penny pitcher night. When he and his three friends were asked to leave after drinking at the bar, Krause was confronted by Evan L. Triggs, former starting defensive end for the Ball State football team.

According to court documents, Triggs knocked Krause to the pavement in the parking lot where Krause lay unconscious while Triggs repeatedly kicked Krause in the head causing "grievous and multiple injuries."

The law suit also stated Krause incurred medical bills exceeding $30,000 from numerous surgeries for his broken facial bones and a broken nose.

Dill Street Bar and Grill has been included in the suit because of what the lawsuit called "a breach of proper security measures to prevent or stop the said assault on Krause, serving beer in an indiscriminate manner and in general allowing and encouraging a culture of violence in and about the premises."
