Changes in store for village

Scotty's to close for renovations, new shop opens Tuesday

While Scotty's Brewhouse will shut off its taps at the end of July in an attempt to expand business, another shop will open its doors a few feet away.

Scotty's will be under construction starting on July 21 or 28 for three to five weeks, manager Scott Craddock said.

Craddock said with the new expansion of the kitchen, food will be delivered faster to the customers. The restaurant will add two more big-screen televisions and eventually expand the patio space.

"We are trying to make Scotty's more customer friendly," Craddock said. "That is our big priority."

Craddock said the expansion will create new job positions.

Another business opening down the street from Scotty's will also be hiring for new jobs.

Roly Poly Sandwiches will open at 1712 University Ave. on Tuesday.

The restaurant features sandwiches with rolled tortillas. This is a good option for diet-conscious customers, owner Thom Carmony said.

"Our product stays fresh for up to 24 hours," Carmony said. "We prepare sandwiches with fresh ingredients and dressing that we make ourselves daily."

If a customer is not satisfied with one of the 53 varieties of sandwiches, they can choose the "roll your own" option.

Roly Poly also specializes in box lunches and catering. A "quick-pick" area is available for customers who are in a hurry.

Carmony, from Indianapolis, is in business with his brother David Carmony. The two have a store in Indianapolis and are now expanding into university locations.

Roly Poly will not take business away from other sandwich shops in the village, Carmony said.

"This brings other options to people and therefore brings more business to the area," Carmony said. "It is good business for everyone."

Store manager Pamela Heart said that shops like Subway and Jimmy John's are not comparable.

"The concept is totally different from the other sandwich shops around here," store manager Pamela Heart said.

Roly Poly originated in Atlanta in 1997.

The store hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Sunday. Carmony said store hours are subject to change once the fall semester begins.

Delivery is available anywhere in Muncie with a $15 minimum order.
