Importance recognized in AmeriCorps

COMMUNITY CONCERN

Those who have served in AmeriCorps will be meeting on the east steps of the Indiana Statehouse on Thursday to answer the question: "Why does America need AmeriCorps?"

Current and past members will speak about contributions made to the community, state and country through their service. Information on "necessary government action" will be distributed to the public, according to a press release.

Members of AmeriCorps will discuss issues with lack of program funding that may cause "devastating cutbacks in all Indiana AmeriCorps programs and require that several close altogether if action by government to restore funding is not taken immediately."

Public is welcome to the event though focus is placed on AmeriCorps workers and alumni. Participants will meet at 3:15 p.m. and the event will move to the North Rotunda if it is raining.
