After the departure of assistant Tracy Webster to Purdue earlier this month, the Ball State men's basketball team had an empty place in its nest. The Cardinals have now filled that spot with the addition of new assistant coach Howard Moore.
For the past four seasons, Moore has served as an assistant coach at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. Before that, Moore had started his college coaching career at the University of Chicago in 1999 as a volunteer assistant. The following year, he worked as an administrative assistant at Bradley.
Moore played college basketball at Wisconsin from 1990-1995. During that time, he met current Ball State head coach Tim Buckley and was a teammate of the man he now replaces, Tracy Webster. He earned Wisconsin's Most Improved Player Award twice over his career and served as team captain for the Badgers his senior season. In 1994, Moore represented the Big Ten Conference on a tour of Argentina with a group of league all-stars. After graduating in 1995 from Wisconsin with a degree in African-American Studies, he played professionally in the Czech Republic in 1995-1996 until his season was ended by a knee injury.
In high school, Moore averaged 14 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks per game as a senior at William Howard Taft High School in Chicago. He led Taft to the semifinals of the 1990 Chicago Public League Tournament. Moore has also been a member of the Chicago Public League Hall of Fame since 1999.
