The Temporal Front: Upcoming rally supports spirit of Americans

Russell Greim is a senior business major and writes 'The Temporal Front' for the Daily News. His views do not necessarily agree with those
of the newspaper.

For all of my life, I have believed in the power of the American Spirit.

I believe in the founders and their ideals that made this country the great nation that it is. I believe in democracy and freedom in all its forms.

Sometimes democracy's majority must make its voice heard.

Last week, a CBS-New York Times Poll showed that the majority of Americans support war against Iraq. A growing majority is becoming impatient with the bickering and childish power-grab behavior at the United Nations. The people support the President.

Not if you trust the media. Countless headlines and front page spreads have been produced over the flimsy, tiny, minority protests taking place around the world calling for peace. However, the hundreds of thousands who have rallied for America have received virtually no press at all.

Now it is time for those of us who support President George W. Bush, elected under the Constitution of the United States, to make our voices heard.

It is time for those of us who do not desire conflict, but know that war is sometimes the last option, to make our voices heard.

It is time for those of us who support our troops and their families for the sacrifices they have made, and may still endure, to make our voices heard.

Next Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the Kruse Auction Park in Auburn, Ind., there will be a Rally for America in the Fort Wayne Area. Directions are available on my Web site.

Nationally syndicated radio talk show host Glenn Beck will be in attendance as well as state politicians. Thousands are expected to attend to show their support for America, its troops, and its President.

I know that 90 miles may seem like a long way to travel, particularly at 8:00 on a Saturday morning. I know that finances may be tight for some students, particularly after spring break.

On the other hand, I know that there are people on this campus and across this state who love America. I know that they support our president and realize the consequences of letting Saddam Hussein continue to possess weapons of mass destruction.

I know there are those who support our troops because they know someone who serves, or has served, in the armed forces. I know, because I am one of them.

Your attendance at this rally may not have an impact on media coverage of the event. Let's face it, the media would rather cover opposition to George W. Bush than serious content and support for him. "No War for Oil" and "Drop Bush Not Bombs" make better press than "We Support Our Troops" or "Saddam Must Go."

What your attendance will do is show that Indiana is not represented by the same measly 150 protesters who run around the state attending protests in Muncie, Indianapolis, and Bloomington. Indiana is about American values at their finest, including the voice of the majority.

Join me, and thousands more, in supporting the American Spirit on Saturday, at 11 a.m.
