Cards return home Saturday

For the first time since Nov. 23, the women's swimming and diving team will host a duel meet at the Lewellen Aquatics Center on Saturday when it competes against the Wright State Raiders. Ball State comes in fresh off of a 187-111 road victory at Marshall last week.

Head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said the team needs to be more competitive on Saturday. She said Wright State is better than Marshall and emphasized that the Cardinals may not have had as much focus against the Thundering Herd because they expected to win.

"This team has so much potential that it's unbelievable," the 24-year head coach said. "Right about now, we must be more focused to do well. We have the capabilities to do a lot more things down the road, and I think we will."

The Cardinals will look to individual performances from sophomore Karla Bailey, senior Melissa Keilen and freshman Michelle Braden to lead them against the Raiders. Bailey and Keilen were both two-event winners at Marshall. Braden continued her successful freshman stint by notching a first place finish in the 200-meter breaststroke.

Keilen will have her work cut out for her this weekend, when she matches up with WSU junior freestyler Katie Tippett, who has the Horizon League's fastest time in the 200-meter free (1:56.85) to her credit.

"They are a very polished team," Seibold-Caudill said. "Small but competitive. It should be very similar to the Western Kentucky meet."

The Raiders competed against Ball State conference rival Miami last weekend and were defeated 153-79.
