Swimmers ready for weekend

Women's swim team faces competition with high spirits.

The Ball State women's swim team has been on fire as of late, after coming off of last weekend's two big victories.

The Cardinals, who are now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference, took down conference rivals Bowling Green by the score of 182-118 and Buffalo by 218-82.

"We came out on fire this weekend," said women's head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill. "We're all very pleased with the meets last weekend."

The Cardinals were led by sophomore MAC Swimmer of the Week Sarah King.

King was victorious in two sprinting events for the Cardinals -- the 50 free with a time of 24.84 and in the 100 free with a time of 53.95. King was also a member of the 400 free relay with a time of 3:40.62.

"Sarah is the sprinter on the team," said Seibold-Caudill. "She just came out on fire this weekend."

Last weekend King encountered a first.

"Last weekend was an experimental one for me," said King. "I'm in the process of changing my techniques especially in my turns, and it was the first meet I've tried the new techniques in."

The Cardinals take on host IUPUI and Western Illinois on Friday, and return home Saturday for competition against Xavier and the University of Illinois-Chicago.

"The second meet is going to be more competitive," Seibold-Caudill said. "Both teams are good, but since we have more depth, it will take us further."

New opportunities will arise throughout the weekend, and Seibold-Caudill looks to take full advantage of them.

"We'll get to do new things with the line-up, put new people in their third best races, and since we have the depth we can do that," Seibold-Caudill said.

The Cardinals are looking to go into the weekend and walk away with four more victories.

"We're really pulling together right now," said King,"and we are not going to let any opportunities pass us by."

The Cardinals are planning on going in with a competitive spirit and attitude that they have had since the beginning of the season.

"We can't get sloppy this weekend," Seibold-Caudill said. "We just need to come out on fire and keep on competing."
