Student arrested near LaFollette complex

University Police arrested a Ball State student early Thursday morning at the LaFollette Complex loading docks after receiving a call about two people smoking marijuana in the area.

Neil A. Cooper, 19, 2510 W. Main St., Richmond, was arrested at 1:54 a.m. on charges of possession of marijuana and reckless possession of paraphernalia.

When police arrived at LaFollette Complex, an officer saw Cooper and Michael B. Allen, 8805 Buffalo Nickel Turn, Midlothian, Va. sitting on a picnic table near the loading docks, according to police reports. As an officer approached the two, Cooper dropped an object on the ground, which police later identified as a glass smoking pipe. Police retrieved the pipe, which had marijuana in its bowl, according to police reports.

An officer also smelled a strong odor of burning marijuana on Cooper's and Allen's clothing. The officer searched Cooper, who dropped the pipe, and found on him a pill bottle with a platic bag that contained marijuana.

Police released Allen after Cooper's arrest.
