"Friday with Friends" to be held at Art Museum tonight

Event will offer inside look at Rodin exhibit

This semester's first "Friday with Friends" event will be held at the Art Museum from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event is open to anyone older than 21 years.

Though "Friday with Friends" has been active for six years, tonight's event will offer the opportunity to get an inside look at the feature exhibit, "Rodin's Obsession: The Gates of Hell," as well as the chance to learn about bronze casting.

Nancy Huth, assistant director and curator of education, said there will also be tours of Rodin's exhibit.

"The tour will cover the individual sculptures and how they relate to the overall work," Huth said. "It will also allow visitors to view both individual objects and the exhibitions as a whole."

A brief display on the casting of bronze, to be presented by Kenton Hall, associate professor of art, will explain how Rodin created his pieces and will also show off some student work in bronzing.

Hall said he will describe the process and materials used during it.

Alain Joyaux, director of the art museum, said Friday will be an informal, relaxing atmosphere to spend time with friends after work.

Many patrons who attend are often from the community, Hall said.

Hall said "Friday with Friends" offers patrons and friends of the museum the opportunity to learn a little about how the art is created.
