Thousands of fans turned out for X103's 10th anniversary MayDay concert featuring Incubus, Hoobastank, The Why Store, 3rd Strike

There are shows ... there are concerts ... and then there's May Day with Incubus.

Nearly four hours after the concert began, Southern California rockers, Incubus, took the stage. Fans that had already rocked out to the likes of 3rd Strike, The Why Store and Hoobastank took an hour and 45 minute ride with no remorse.

The show kicked off with a fierce version of "Have You Ever" from the band's recent album "Morning View." While the sounds of frogs and crickets surrounded the amphitheater before the band took the stage, a large screen displaying a window took the crowd on a journey. From that point on, the journey never stopped. To put it simple, the strength of the show can be summed up in its visual effects, combined with the exhausting musical talents the band possesses when it plays live.

What allows your chin to hit the floor is the person behind the scenes. Every laser, every picture or visual, set to screen was carefully sought out. Each light was carefully choreographed with the music. To put it easier, whoever designed this show has done something incredibly right.

Along with the lighting effects is that Incubus has done it right, also. For once, a fan of rock can go to a show and get the same visual effects as a pop concert, without the dancing and back flips. Even lead singer Brandon Boyd has reached new levels in his career as a musician. While often being seen as the pinnacle of the band, due to his popularity as eye candy with women, Boyd has proven himself worthy to be the center of attention.

While extensive touring can leave relentless strains on the vocal chords, Boyd failed to make one mistake throughout the concert, nor did he or the other band mates display one moment of weakness. Instead, it was gratitude towards the fans.

The band expressed its gratitude to longtime fans by playing some of the older songs that helped Incubus win them from the release of its earlier albums "Fungus Amongus" and "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." "A Certain Shade of Green" was welcomed by thrilled fans and more visual effects.

Midway through the concert, Boyd sat down on a couch with guitarist Mike Einziger and played an acoustic version of "Make Yourself's" "Pardon Me" and "Mexico" from "Morning View."

While leaving, fans were sure of one thing: Earlier during the show, Boyd asked the audience to sing along with "Are You In" from "Morning View." Boyd sang as he asked the audience "are you in?" And as any Incubus fan would know ? it's so much better when everyone is in.
