Wednesday's abortion protesters irritated me.
Don't get me wrong, I love freedom of speech. I fully utilize my right to express my views and ideas on any subject every chance I get. On paper, I guess I am glad the anti-abortion activists are getting involved with their cause.
But I think they are going about it the wrong way - people should not force their ideas down my throat.
If you went to public high school like I did, sex education was always a prevalent subject. Words like "safe sex" or "abstinence" were used practically every day. I think it is good for everyone to be well-informed, but hearing safe sex lectures daily gets old fast. We all know about abortion. It is in the news all the time.
We don't need street-corner preachers to make up our minds about how we think about this subject. Members of the Ball State community is intelligent enough to make their own decisions.
Was anyone listening to what they were saying? One of them really disgusted me when he said, "Women always use rape and incest as an excuse to get an abortion. Why punish the innocent for the sin of the guilty?"
So, people who are raped or forced into incestuous relationships are sinners? I am sure the blame lies solely on the woman in those situations.
Wake up. Those women are victims in either case - of circumstance or otherwise.
Something else also infuriated me as I walked through the Scramble Light. It was a huge sign that said "Hitler's Holocaust" with a picture of dead bodies and then underneath it said "Planned Parenthood's Holocaust" with a picture of a dead mutilated baby.
First of all, how can that group compare the Holocaust to abortion? Those are two completely different subjects. I don't believe the two ideas should ever be compared or associated with each other. That's wrong.
Second of all, the pictures of those mutilated babies were atrocious. Abortions of that nature are called partial-birth abortions.
This type of abortion is illegal in Indiana as well as 23 other states so, really, this view of abortion isn't necessary to illustrate the group's point. Plus, it is downright disgusting.

I can honestly say I would not get an abortion if I became pregnant. I made this decision based on my thoughts and beliefs. It wasn't because of my political affiliation or because some radical at a street corner told me not to. I will not tell another woman she can't choose to get an abortion. It's her choice.
