Broadway musical coming to Richmond

What's the easiest way to get to the top of the corporate ladder? Ask J. Perrepont Finch of Shepard Mead's novel turned Broadway musical, "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying."

"It's the story of an entry level person who gets a job as a window washer. He buys a book called 'How To Succeed In Business,' and by the end, he's the head of the company," said Stuart Secttor of the Civic Hall Performance Art Center in Richmond. "To top it all off, he finds true love along the way."

The play was originally on Broadway in the 1960s with Robert Morse as the original Finch. In the '90s during the revival, Matthew Broderick played the role of Finch.

Secttor said the musical is similar to the 1987 film "The Secret of My Success" starring Michael J. Fox.

"It's the classic story of rags to riches, on the rise up the corporate ladder," Secttor said. "Though this story is not as edgy as the movie, it's more humorous. It portrays how he fumbles his way to the top."

Secttor said the whole family can enjoy the play.

"Anyone who likes Broadway will like this," Secttor said.
