Editorial: 'Feminism 101' lecture to inform campus opinion

Lecture will be enriching for all in attendance.

The Women's Studies Program, along with other campus organizations, has sponsored Gloria Steinem to speak tonight in honor of Women's Week. She will lecture on the advancement of women's social equality in her speech, "Feminism 101."

Steinem is known for her contributions to the worldwide advancement of women's social equality. She has written books, lectured and is the co-founder of Ms. magazine.

"Steinem is one of the most important voices in the modern women's movement," said Kim Jones-Owen, director of the Women's Studies Program. "No questions about it."

At 61, Steinem is widely recognized for her books which include "Revolution From Within," "Moving Beyond Words" and "Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions."

Although many see her as an extreme feminist, she has taken great strides in leading women and giving them a voice of equality.

Hearing Steinem speak could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. By hearing a different viewpoint, students can develop more informed opinions. Whether a feminist, male, female, conservative or liberal - attending her lecture will be an enriching addition to any university experience.
