Celebration lasts throughout March
Comedian, speakers, cultural events highlight month's calendar.

The month of March is Latino Awareness Month, and members of the Latino Student Union say they are geared up to celebrate and observe this month with every student.
Eight events are scheduled, and members say they hope the events will weave a greater understanding of Latino culture with live music, theater, food, art, humor and social commentary.
"We want everyone to come out and experience a taste of all Latino culture," said Edna Gonzalez, treasurer of the Latino Student Union.
Also planned for the month are musician Irene Farrera and artist and activist "Reyes."
Farrera is a Venezuelan singer and songwriter who, according to the Union, delivers a message of peace and understanding.
Farrera uses the Joropo and gaita rhythms of her native region to accompany her Spanish, Portuguese and English lyrics.
"Reyes" is a writer, photographer and political activist. According to the release, "Reyes" appeals to both young and older generations. The release said he balances politics, spirituality and compassion for those people in the world with no voice.
All events for the month are free.
The first event of the month precedes the keynote speaker, Ruthie Maldonado, who will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Student Center Forum Room.
At 10 p.m. on Saturday, in the Student Center Tally, performer Lydia Nicole will put on the one-woman show "Calling Up Papi," which recounts Nicole's upbringing in New York's City's Spanish Harlem.
Other events for the week include a salsa dance from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday in the Student Center Tally and a free dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Scheidler Community Room.
