EDITORIAL: Better promotion leads to enrollment growth

Ball State officials say university best suited for 18, 000 to 19,000.

Some noticeable traffic increases will affect the expediency of getting to fall classes. According to a press release from the university, Ball State's enrollment will grow over 18,000 students for the first time since the 1997-1998 school year.

In fact, next year's freshman class could exceed 3,700 students according to vice president of student affairs Doug McConkey. Ball State may expect over 800 transfer students also.

Currently, Ball State has an on-campus enrollment of 16,408 for spring semester classes- an increase of 301 students from last spring.

University officials say Ball State is best suited to handle between 18,000 and 19,000 students. Construction and renovation projects around the campus are proof that steps taken at a feverish pace will ensure quality facilities for students.

Ball State is growing quickly. Incoming students aren't looking at Ball State as a third option when it comes to higher education in Indiana. Ball State's reputation is improving. The school's visibility is everywhere along Indiana's highways on billboards, on television and in radio commercials.

Ball State should be commended for the way it is promoting itself to prospective students.
