Bobcats pounce Cardinals, BSU encounters 8th loss

ATHENS, OHIO - Ball State could do nothing but watch as Ohio University rolled to a 85-71 victory over the Mid-American Conference West leading Cardinals.

Ball State did not lead the game at all Saturday as the Cardinals record fell to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in the MAC.

Ohio's win improved the Bobcats to 13-7 overall and 8-4 in the MAC.

The leading scorer for Ball State was Petie Jackson, who knocked down 17 points. Theron Smith tallied 14 points for the contest while Lonnie Jones scored the same. Finally, the only other player to score in double-digits for Ball State was Chris Williams with 13 points.

Perhaps the biggest story of the game for the Cardinals was the teams shooting. Ball State finished the contest going 35 percent from the field and only 23 percent from behind the three-point arc shooting 7-30.

"Ball State has become the flagship of this league from Maui," Said "When that score goes up on that board it says a lot for our team."

Leading the Bobcats in their defeat of the "flagship" Cardinals was Brandon Hunter who tallied 30 points and 10 rebounds.

After the 14 point loss, Ball State coach Tim Buckley made no excuses.

"Lack of effort," Buckley said. "It was a collective lack of effort. It was a very poor performance on our part. We just didn't play very well."

When asked if there was anything that Buckley was pleased with, the coach responded with a hard, flat, "no." Check monday's edition of the Daily News for full game coverage including how much impact Ohio's student section played on Ball State's loss.
