The Mid-American Conference has dragged its feet throughout the entire college basketball season on finalizing a television package. Finally, by the nineteenth game of the season conference, officials released a package deal that includes two nationally televised games on ESPN and ESPN2.
But neither of those games include the MAC's most publicized team - Ball State.
Ball State won the hearts of the college basketball world by upsetting Kansas and UCLA in the Maui Invitational and played tough against Duke. The Cardinals were the only team in the conference in the Top 25 polls. With Ball State in the spotlight, the MAC was getting legitimate talk of placing two teams in the NCAA tournament. Television exposure for the conference puts it there.
Fox Sports Ohio will show the Cardinals twice this season on Feb. 16 and Feb. 23., while the national games on ESPN feature Ohio at Marshall and Ohio at North Carolina.
If the MAC wants to display its best product for the world to see, why is it limiting it to viewers in Ohio? Fans in Indiana can not watch the games unless they have satellite television. Ball State should be on national television to keep the MAC's popularity momentum going.
