MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) -- Saturday is the official end of Winter Weather Preparedness Week here in Indiana, which makes it the perfect time to review everything that we covered during the week, as well as provide you with the streams for our interviews from Friday's Winter Weather Special.
MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) — As winter weather preparedness week comes to an official close on Saturday, just in time for our first potential snowfall of the year, it is important to remind ourselves about how to stay safe when we have to go out into the elements. From how to stay safe with your vehicle, to dressing in layers, and treating/preventing cold related injuries, there is a lot to keep in mind before braving what Indiana winters can throw at us. Forecasters Balint Szalavari, Caleb Saylor, and Ethan Rosuck help to guides us through the steps we need to take to stay safe.
MUNCIE, IN (Newslink Indiana) -- The weekend has arrived once again after a week of varying weather. We have experienced rain, strong winds, and sunny skies throughout the week, however, it is only going to get more varied this weekend. A low pressure system is expected to move in Friday overnight into the Saturday morning hours. Overnight temperatures will drop down to a low of 34 degrees, and moving into Saturday we have the first chance of seeing the first snowfall of the season. The snow will not stick around for long, as you can expect a rain/snow mixture which won't give the snow an opportunity to stay. After this system passes through conditions will clear out and we will return to sunny conditions with temperatures slowly working their way back up to the low to mid 50s for Thanksgiving.
MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- This week we have experienced a mixed bag of weather. Rain and warmth one day and sunny and cool skies the next. However at least for the start of your weekend those clear skies won't be sticking around. As a system moves in from our west, it'll bring with it cloudy skies late on Friday, when we will see a high of 47. Saturday those clouds will persist, but we will have cooler temperatures with the possibility of our first snowfall of the season as we will see a rain/snow mix persist throughout the day. Snow accumulation, if any, will be less than 1 inch and the snow won't stick around for long. Sunday that system will move off to the east giving us clear skies, but cold Canadian air will have moved on overnight, so we will only make it up to 30 degrees for your Sunday high. The start of the work week we will start to see temperatures on the rise. We will have clear skies and a high near 40 degrees on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday we'll see mostly sunny skies. Thursday we will see partly sunny skies, and a 20% chance of rain with a high of 54 degrees.
MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- Well after a cooler and windier Thursday, Friday we will see some of the same conditions however changes are in the forecast for late Friday and into Saturday. We will be seeing overcasts skies start to move into Central Indiana with rain showers moving in as well. We will try to reach a high of 45 Friday. For Saturday, we will be seeing our high temperatures in the morning which will be in the upper 30s and bottoming out Saturday night around 29 degrees. Rain showers will then turn in to a few snowflakes throughout the day, and by Sunday the system will be out making way for sunny conditions to end the weekend. Your Thanksgiving week does look Sunny with highs ranging from the upper 30s on Monday, and highs in the mid 50s on Thursday.
MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) -- Winter weather week has almost come to an end but there is still plenty to discuss. One of the major things people look to every year is the long term winter weather outlook, which this year is indicating a warmer and drier than average winter. These outlooks can be helpful, but they certainly don't mean it won't get cold and that it won't snow. With that in mind it is always important to know what to look for when it comes to cold weather injuries, such as hypothermia and frostbite, and to know how to treat these conditions. WCRD Chief Weather Forecaster Michael Behrens and Forecaster Adam Grimes have more details in today's stream!
MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- The rain has moved off East but cooler temperatures and our first chances of some snow are coming. Today will reach a high of 51 with skies clearing throughout the afternoon. Friday morning we will wake up to below freezing temperatures and heat up to only 46. For Saturday, a system bringing us mostly rain will move into our area. I would not be surprised if we saw some snow flurries out of this as well. But do not worry, no big accumulation amounts will come out of this in the end. Things are going to cool way down for Sunday with a low of 23 and a high of just 32 degrees. The start of the work week will begin to warm back up with temperatures in the lower-to-mid 40's with lots of sunshine each day.
MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) — We are now to the halfway point of Winter Weather Preparedness week and it would not be a week about winter preparation without talking about the steps local schools take to keep your children safe during the cold season. From school delays and cancellations, to early dismissals and watching for children exposed to the cold, local schools keep your child’s safety a top priority. WCRD Forecasters David Siple, Cody Blevins, and Josh Reed examine all the steps schools take to prepare for the winter season.
Despite the signs outside of Muncie Liquors that read, “KEGS KEGS KEGS,” the local chain doesn’t have any for sale.
MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- The heavy rain we are experiencing can be expected to clear out by about 7 pm tonight. Tomorrow we will have a break from the rain and have a dry day. Snow will be making its first appearance this weekend on Saturday, and Sunday we will have a high near freezing at 34 degrees. Rachel Russell tells more in this midday weather update.
MUNCIE, IN (WCRD Weather) — As Indiana Winter Weather Preparedness Week continues, we are reminded that the cold temperatures and snow that come with winter bring with them an increased level of danger when hitting the road. There are a number of things, from adding weight to your car to just keeping up on routine maintenance, that can help to reduce these dangers. For Tuesday’s topic, Assistant Chief Forecaster Samantha Garrett, along with Forecasters Kendra Rauner and Chelsea Smith, took the time to explain the dos and don’ts of winter weather travel safety.
MUNCIE, IN (NewsLink Indiana) -- This is a forecast that truly has a bit of everything. Rain, mild temps, cold weather, and even a touch of snow. Rain and mild temps will kick things off, with highs on Wednesday staying in the low 60s, as rain moves through the region. This rain should arrive after the eight o'clock hour and linger around through the evening. Cold temperatures then follow behind the rainfall, with highs by the weekend only reaching into the 40s for Saturday! Our next shot for precipitation will also arrive during Saturday, with the chance for rain and maybe a wintry mix and even some snow on the backside of the system. This system will drop out temperatures even more for Sunday, with a high that only reaches 34! Monday will bring with it the chance to see our second possibility of snow in this forecast, with the risk of seeing some light snowfall in the early hours of Monday. For expanded details and timing please watch the video above.
