Events coming to Emens Auditorium, Pruis Hall this semester

Here’s a look at what’s happening this semester.

Socks in the Frying Pan

7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at Pruis Hall

This Irish band is touring after the success of its first self-named album. The trio wrote several tunes and one of the songs themselves, and has been called a “high-energy, masterfully performed collection of music and song.”

The Havana Cuba All-Stars: The Asere Friendship Tour

7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Pruis Hall

This performance is by some of Cuba’s greatest and most prominent musicians. They preserve many traditions of Cuban music in their songs and seek to promote the entire range of Cuban music.

Women of the World

7:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Pruis Hall

Watch this Boston-based ensemble perform original and folk music from around the world. The women are from the United States, Italy, India and Haiti, and perform as an a capella quartet. They promote unity by combining their traditional genres.

Michael Carbonaro

7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Emens Auditorium

Come see Michael Carbonaro from “The Carbonaro Effect” work his magic live during this performance. There will be plenty of audience interaction during the show.

"Enra: A Fusion of Live Dance and Cinema"

7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at Emens Auditorium

“Enra” is a Tokyo-based performance and production company that combines both motion graphics and live performance. Dancers perform a variety of genres, including ballet, Kung-fu, acrobatics, juggling and rhythmic gymnastics—all with motion graphics.

The Hot Sardines

7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Pruis Hall

This New York City jazz band combines a brass lineup, a rhythm section, a stride-piano virtuoso, a tap dancer and adds a frontwoman who can sing in English and French. The Hot Sardines perform jazz from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s.

"Legends in Concert: World's Greatest Live Tribute Show"

7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Emens Auditorium

Come and watch legends like Prince, Cher, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, The Blues Brothers and Bruce Springsteen perform in this tribute show. Each performer not only looks like their star, but will sound like them too.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Pruis Hall

These seven brothers combine jazz and hip-hop in their music. Come check out this indie band from New York City.

Rhonda Vincent and the Rage

7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Pruis Hall

This bluegrass artist plays the fiddle and mandolin and has been nominated for seven International Bluegrass Music Association awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year. In 2015, she released a Christmas album that featured guests like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and the Oak Ridge Boys.

Jeremy Camp

7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at Emens Auditorium

Jeremy Camp will perform some of his hits like “Same Power,” “Christ in Me” and “He Knows” at his Emens performance. Camp is a contemporary Christian artist and an Indiana native. 

Ustad Shafaat Khan

7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Pruis Hall

This Indian classical musician has performed worldwide. His work blends eastern and western music and is inspired by famous spiritual poet Rumi. 

"Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus LIVE!"

7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 and 19 at Pruis Hall

This off-Broadway comedy is based on the New York Times #1 best-selling book of the last decade by John Gray. It moves through a series of vignettes, and topics range from dating to marriage to the bedroom.

"Underwater Bubble Show"

7:30 p.m. Nov. 22 at Emens Auditorium

This show, inspired by “Cirque du Soleil”, blends drama, mime, dance, puppetry, juggling, contortionism, sand art, magic and bubbles. The show also uses laser technologies, snow cannons, soap bubble tornadoes, fog and optical illusions.

The Ten Tenors: Home for the Holidays

7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Emens Auditorium

This Australian group has performed with the likes of John Travolta, Nicole Kidman, Geoffrey Rush, Keith Urban, Rod Stewart and Christina Aguilera. The group sings classically-based contemporary music.

Cathie Ryan: Winter's Heart

7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Pruis Hall

Irish singer-songwriter Cathie Ryan has been in the business for more than 20 years. She and her band have appeared at performing arts centers, festivals, folk clubs and with symphonies.
