Ball State fell in the quarterfinal game of the CollegeInsider.com Invitational Tournament to Columbia, 67-69.

On Columbia's last possession, Maodo Lo missed a 3-point shot, which went out of bounds and gave Ball State possession with 12 seconds remaining in the game.

Ball State trailed 67-69.

As the Cardinals went down the floor, sophomore forward Sean Sellers drove to the hoop and was fouled on the shot with 1.9 seconds remaining.

He would miss his first free throw, and head coach James Whitford called a timeout.

On the second free throw, Sellers hit the back of the rim and the ball bounced up on what almost gave freshman center Trey Moses the Cardinals possession.

Columbia would, however, gain possession and throw the ball away to run down the remainder of the clock, giving the Lions a spot in the CIT semifinals.

It was a back and forth game in New York from the beginning, no team held more than a 7-point lead throughout. Ball State's 60-53 lead with 6:01 remaining in the game was the biggest lead the Cardinals held in the CIT.

Moses led the way for the Cardinals scoring attack with 15 points and was trailed by junior forward Franko House with 12 and senior forward Bo Calhoun with 10.

Ball State finished its 2015-16 season with a 21-14 record, which remains the most wins by any Ball State basketball team since the Cardinals 2001-02 season.
