Plesac, Maloney win MAC Pitcher, Player of the Week

Two Ball State juniors swept this week's Mid-American Conference West Division Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. Right-handed pitcher Zach Plesac earned the Pitcher of the Week award after throwing a two-hit complete game shutout Saturday against a Miami (Ohio) squad that averaged 6.7 runs per game entering the series. Plesac (2-1, 3.03 ERA) racked up 11 strikeouts without giving up a walk in the 9-0 win. Alex Maloney, the Cardinals' starting shortstop, earned the Player of the Week award after hitting .438 with five runs scored.

Nathalie Fontaine earns AP All-America Honorable Mention

Ball State women's basketball senior forward Nathalie time was selected as an All-America honorable mention by the Associated Press. Fontaine only one of 10 non-power five conference players and one of 42 players recognized. "We are very excited and appreciative of this recognition for Nathalie," head coach Brady Sallee said in a statement.

Nephew of student needs votes to get adaptive bike

Doctors said Roan Christianson wouldn't live more than four days after he was born. The 8-year-old nephew of sophomore special education severe interventions major Abbie Christianson was born with cerebral palsy and had a low chance of survival. If he were to live, he would need assisted care for the rest of his life.

Weekend in athletics: March 25-27

Men's volleyball Ball State played its final two regular-season matches at John E. Worthen Arena this past weekend. Since the Cardinals cannot drop lower than fourth in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, however, they guaranteed at least one more home match in the MIVA quarterfinals.
