WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Roller tells team to play with a chip on its shoulder

While playing Temple University Wednesday night, the Ball State University women's basketball team shot a season-low 28 percent in the team's worst offensive night of the year. Junior guard Kiley Jarrett said coach Tracy Roller sat in the locker room with her team after the game and gave them some advice in preparation for the upcoming game against the Valaparaiso University and the rest of the season.

Student Government Association President Betsy Mills will give her State of the Student Body Address at 8 p.m. Thursday in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Cardinal Hall B. She said she would give a U.N.I.T.E.D. Initiative platform update. Her address will be combined with the U.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Team takes step back in loss, Roller says

Entering the 2007-08 season, Ball State University fans could easily point to three non-conference games that presented the Cardinals' women's basketball team a chance to make an early statement. After losing the first two of those games to the University of Louisville and Indiana University, Ball State recorded its third strike Wednesday in a 72-48 loss at Temple University, who made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

FOOTBALL: Punter named All-American

Long-known for its ability to mold great players in the position, Punter U's junior punter Chris Miller has helped continue that tradition throughout three years. After being selected to the Playboy Magazine Preseason All-American First Team, Miller was selected Thursday to the American Football Coaches Association All-American First Team.

WOMEN'S GOLF: Cardinals get two commits for next year

Two women's golfers committed Thursday to play at Ball State University next season. Kristtini Cain from Marion and Katie Windlan from Anderson each signed a national letter of intent to play for the Cardinals. Cain was the 2007 Westfield Junior PGA Championship Qualifier and a two-time Indiana Masters Tour Champion.

Trashy tailgate

A week had drawn to a close with a football game victory. The weather was perfect for thousands of fans at the tailgating scene to let their hair down after the long week. But Sunday morning was not ready to welcome a new week's beginning. Its sky was overpowered with clouds and could barely muster enough light to reveal what lay beneath; the morning appeared hung over.

Coming off of a tournament win at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Thanksgiving Tournament, the Ball State University women's basketball team continues road play at the University of Temple on Wednesday. With its two losses coming to the University of Louisville and Indiana University this season, the Cardinals line up to face a Temple team that was defeated in the second round of the NCAA tournament last year.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cardinals drop fifth consecutive game

For the third time this season, the Ball State University men's basketball team was able to force a more highly-regarded opponent to play hard the whole game, but were unable to get a victory, as it lost to St. Joseph's University 74-63. Ball State is now 0-5 on the season, although the last four defeats have been by 11 points or fewer.

Two vehicles collide near LaFollette Complex

Traffic slowed on McKinley Avenue for about an hour Tuesday as Indiana State and Ball State University police departments and Nye's Wrecking Service cleared an accident that involved two Ball State University students. Senior Dustin Goad said he was traveling south on McKinley Avenue in his Mitsubishi Eclipse.

FOOTBALL: Nine BSU players receive MAC honors

After the first winning season for the Ball State University football team since 1996, nine players were rewarded by the Mid-American Conference for their season. Four Ball State juniors were named to the All-MAC First Team. Offensive tackle Robert Brewster, tight end Darius Hill, receiver Dante Love and punter Chris Miller received the honor.

Split pipe floods labs in Cooper

Thousands of dollars' worth of scientific equipment narrowly missed being damaged when a leak was discovered in the Cooper Science Complex Monday morning. Lynn Sousa, the acting chairman of the chemistry department, said the newly-renovated third floor lab that contains the valuable equipment was found with water-damaged ceiling tiles when staff arrived on Monday.

Stolen stork still stumps employees at birthing clinic

A Muncie birthing clinic is beginning to make funeral arrangements for its missing mascot after almost a month since its abduction, according to Expectations Women's Health & Childbearing Center. Barb Bechtel, certified nurse and midwife, said if "Gregory Peck," the six-foot-tall, wooden stork that once perched out front of the clinic, is not returned in the next few weeks, employees will have a memorial service to bid it a fond farewell.

FOOTBALL: Official says Ball State has bowl options

With speculation swirling about Ball State University's possible bowl destination, Ken Hoffman, executive director for two Mid-American Conference bowls, is one of the few people who can make an accurate prediction. Hoffman, who will issue invitations to participants in the Motor City Bowl and International Bowl, said no decisions would be released until after the MAC Championship Game.

Ball State University football team's regular season is over, meaning it is time to hand out some hardware. So without further ado... Most Valuable Player: No question on this one, it has got to be sophomore quarterback Nate Davis. He finished the season with 3,376 yards, a Ball State record and 13th-most in the country ahead of quarterbacks like Andre Woodson from the University of Kentucky.

The football team's win against the Northern Illinois University on Saturday was a big win that increased Ball State University's chances to play in a bowl game. But next year, beating Northern Illinois will have even bigger implications. Apparently, the school is now our biggest rival, and we'll be competing for "The Bronze Stalk" trophy, which will go to the winner of the teams' matchup each year.

FOOTBALL: Hill named John Mackey Award semifinalist

Following a six-point win to cement the Ball State University football team's most successful season in 11 years, two players received individual honors for their performances. Cardinals' junior tight end Darius Hill was rewarded for his season resume, while sophomore defensive end Brandon Crawford was honored for his play in the team's final regular season game at Northern Illinois University.
