Even though the Ball State University soccer team thought it played well against the University of Oklahoma last week, it still lost the game. This weekend the Cardinals (0-2) will look to get some positive results from their good play as they travel to Colorado to play Air Force (0-3) and Colorado College (3-0).

Freshman Jenny Pyle must have a fountain in her room. With a fountain, Pyle can guarantee herself good karma. "It's all about using design to boost your good karma," the journalism major said. Comedy night relocates

Ball State University student Ryan Ehresman said he found the passion in his life from getting a thrill out of making people laugh. "With acting you hide behind a character. With stand-up comedy it's just you and the routine you wrote," he said. Ehresman and his friend Joey Martin started the show because they wanted to start something different that was completely separate from teachers, he said.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards finalize coaching staff

After being involved with the Ball State University men's basketball team for the last two seasons, Jay Newberry will get a chance to be on the bench during game day. Newberry was promoted from director of basketball operations to an assistant coach Wednesday to finalize the Cardinals coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Documentary focuses on ROTC

For one student, his effort to wake up at the crack of dawn and shoot a documentary has paid off with a television channel premiering the fruits of his efforts. Junior Telecommunications major Blake Fife shot a documentary about ROTC students at Ball State University during the 2008 spring semester.

Businesses feel slump in economy

Driving around the city of Muncie, Ball State University students will see businesses closing or with fewer cars in their parking lots as others are trying to stay open. "Our sales are down quite a bit, even when school's in," general manager of the Long John Silvers on Tillotson Avenue, Mathiax Schindler said.

Football player arrested

Ball State football player Kyle Hoke, nephew of coach Brady Hoke, was arrested for driving while intoxicated Aug. 30, according to Delaware County jail officials. Hoke was booked at the Delaware County jail at 3:30 a.m. and released at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 30, according to jail officials.

Indiana SAT scores trail USA numbers

A recent news release by the Indiana Department of Education revealed that the SAT scores for the class of 2008 remained flat in comparison to scores nationwide and in Indiana last year. Indiana's average scores on the college entrance exam showed a one-point gain in math (508), a two-point drop in writing (481), and a one-point drop in reading (496) making the combined average score 1485.

Sororities across Ball State University's campus kicked off fall recruitment yesterday. This year brings change to the once formal recruitment process. "This year Ball State's sorority recruitment will be using a partially structured form of recruitment," vice president of public relations for Kappa Delta sorority, Kimberly Fox said.

A sellout crowd at Scheumann Stadium is expected Friday night when the Ball State University football team takes on Navy in a 7 p.m. game televised nationally on ESPN. Two miles away at Muncie Central High School, the Bearcats will take on conference rival Marion High School in both teams' North Central Conference opener with their own 7 p.
