Season for sneezing

The start of fall rings in the season for sneezing as cooling weather gives plants a growth spurt, and for some people that means the return of itchy, sniffly allergy symptoms. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of American estimates about 35 million Americans are affected by seasonal allergies, and about 10 to 20 percent of the public is allergic to ragweed, the most common culprit in fall seasonal allergies.

ArtsWalk a success, despite rain

Art in many forms was presented Thursday during the eighth annual ArtsWalk in downtown Muncie. About 50 galleries and venues were open throughout Walnut and Main St., featuring musicians, dancers and paintings. Sophomore arts education major Sinai Lopez said it was the first time she went to ArtsWalk.

Just behind the Minnetrista service building, shoppers stroll leisurely from tent to tent in the golden September dusk. There are no shopping carts and no fluorescent lights here. With each stop at the various tents, the shoppers' plastic sacks sag more and more visibly under the strain of newly acquired tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and squash.

'Public Enemies' comes to Pruis Hall tonight

Ball State University students interested in historical crime dramas and Johnny Depp can now have both. Friday Night Filmworks, presented by University Program Board, will play the movie "Public Enemies" at 9 p.m. today in Pruis Hall. Public Enemies tells the story of Indiana native John Dillinger (Johnny Depp), an infamous bank robber living in 1930s Chicago, according to imdb.

Students celebrate Hispanic heritage with fiesta

Members of Latino Student Union said moving Fiesta on the Green to Pruis Hall Thursday night attracted a smaller crowd than last year, but it was still a good party. LSU adviser Tiffany Washington said this event was a way for the group to recognize National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Ball State University's Student Government Association has been working on something big during the past year. Wednesday's SGA meeting was live streamed online for the first time. Last week's meeting was streamed live in a test run that was meant to confirm password protection and work out the other technical issues.

The first home tournament of the season is in Mother Nature's hands. The Ball State Fall invitational is set for this weekend, but rain could cause some of the play unfinished. "It would be a nightmare if it rains," coach Bill Richards said. "We would just have to sit and hope it clears up.

Students search for jobs, internships at Career Fair

Despite the struggling economy, most employers at Ball State University's annual Career Fair said their business has stayed the same or improved. The fair, which was sponsored by the Career Center, was from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Worthen Arena. Approximately 500 to 600 students showed up to talk to more than 100 businesses.

Indy police look for man who parachuted from building

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Police in Indianapolis are looking for a man who apparently parachuted from the top of a 21-story public housing building. A police report says a tenant at the Barton Tower Apartments in downtown Indianapolis saw a man with an orange or red parachute fly off the roof and land in a nearby street early in the morning Sept.

Businesses prepare for Homecoming week of events

With Homecoming around the corner, Village businesses are preparing for the influx of Ball State University students, alumni and fans that will make up their crowds next weekend. In contrast, some downtown businesses said they are not expecting more business than usual.
