BASEBALL: Team prepares for home schedule

Twenty-one games into the season, the Ball State baseball team has yet to play a home game. Its first chance to play at Ball Diamond will come this weekend as the Cardinals open conference play with a three-game set against the Bowling Green Falcons.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Ball State embraces second consecutive WNIT berth

After a week of leading his team in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, Ball State women’s basketball head coach Brady Sallee is taking a backseat. Ball State earned a berth in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament after a loss to Akron in the MAC Championship. It’s a national tournament that forces players to compete against unfamiliar opponents and at a high pace.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State’s Matt Sutherland uses alternative training to improve on court

Hidden underneath a reserved personality is a driven mind. When Ball State outside attacker Matt Sutherland came to college, head men’s volleyball coach Joel Walton didn’t know how to help Sutherland come out of his shell. Walton turned to Sutherland’s club coach for guidance. “You need let him go and let him know you have confidence in him,” the club coach told Walton.

NFL: Colts owner faces felony charges

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay is known in NFL circles as a tough businessman and eccentric billionaire who enjoys interacting with fans about his beloved team and about his favorite songs from bands like the Beatles and the Grateful Dead. He may end up adding convicted felon to the mix. Irsay was pulled over just before midnight Sunday near his home in suburban Carmel.

BASEBALL: Freshman pitcher making contributions

The transition to college baseball is one that many high school athletes have trouble with. However, for Ball State freshman Zach Plesac the jump appears to be seamless. Coming out of Crown Point High School, Plesac quickly embraced his role in the Cardinals’ bullpen.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State extends winning streak

Ball State knocked off Lees-McRae in four sets Saturday night 25-19, 25-19, 27-29, 25-3. The team finished the match with 50 kills with outside attackers Marcin Niemczewski and Matt Sutherland pacing Ball State each claiming 11 kills. Setter Graham McIlvaine finished with a team-high 25 sets, while Hiago Garchet added 13 of his own. Ball State finished with 13 team blocks; Niemczewski and Kevin Owens each with a solo block. Libero David Ryan Vander Meer led the team with 15 digs, while Shane Witmer was not far behind, contributing 13 digs. The win improves Ball State’s record to 14-5.
