Businesses upset with student discount club

Problems including billing errors, lack of student participation and disrespectful representatives caused several Muncie business owners to end their participation in a program that gives Ball State students discounts at local businesses. Ball State University became involved with Student Savings Club in late Fall 2005, said Marsha Hahn, the company's chief operating officer.

Ball State University juniors Ryan Ehresman and Joey Martin will premiere their first stand-up comedy open mic night at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at MoTini's, located in the Village. Sophomore recovers after gym accident

While playing racquetball Tuesday night at Irving Gym, sophomore Philip Tobin was injured when he hit a glass door and shattered it. Tobin was taken by ambulance to Ball Memorial Hospital with cuts on his legs, left arm, knuckles and ear, he said. "He was coherent and understood what happened," Dan Byrnes, director of Sports Facilities and Recreation Services said.

To put it mildly, I was shocked when I saw that CBS had decided to cancel "Armed & Famous." I really enjoyed the show and seeing as how I'm not a big fan of the "CSI" spin-offs, I'll have to figure out something else to occupy my Wednesday evenings, like studying.

Search for Purdue student set for Saturday

WEST LAFAYETTE (AP) - Purdue University police plan to search rural areas and the Wabash River banks Saturday for clues into what became of a freshman who disappeared more than two weeks ago. Other sweeps by volunteers, police, search dogs and a helicopter have turned up no signs of Wade Steffey, 19, of Bloomington.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards win 23 out of 26 events

Both co-coach Laura Seibold-Caudill's and junior Addison Del Rio's predictions came true at the Natatorium Wednesday. The Ball State University men's and women's swimming and diving team beat IUPUI and the women divers were able to sweep both diving boards.

D'Andre Peyton returned and Anthony Newell recorded a double-double, but the Ball State University men's basketball team lost 67-57 at Bowling Green State University Wednesday. Peyton, returning after missing the last two games due to a team suspension, scored five points in the loss.

Ball State University senior Derek Brewington has not been seen since Saturday morning, but university officials say they have a strong lead on where he might have gone. Family and friends became concerned this week when they had not heard from him since Saturday around noon.

Dining won't accept debit until Spring Break

Students will have to wait a little longer to use their debit and credit cards to pay for food, Ball State University director of operations for dining Liz Poore said. "I am hoping we have the new software up and running by Spring Break," Poore said. "However, just because I am hoping for it does not mean it is going to happen.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Coach says Cardinals can win conference

The Ball State University men's volleyball team has 23 matches left this season, but coach Joel Walton is already thinking about the postseason. The Cardinals (3-4) will play their conference-opener against Lewis University (7-0) Friday. "It's a league match at home, and you have to win those matches," Walton said.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State prepares for Falcons

For the first time in nearly two years, Peyton Stovall will return to a building that contains unpleasant memories. In 2005, Ball State University traveled to Bowling Green State University for the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. With 6:25 remaining in the first half, Stovall was carried from the court suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

WCRD students win international honors

Three students from WCRD radio won Communicator Awards, an international competition that recognizes excellent work in the area of communication. Senior telecommunications major Brett Estes won the Award of Distinction for Concert Spot. He submitted a concert promo called "Heavy Metal in Indy" that he made for an audio class, he said.

Muncie's most recent claim to fame was canceled by CBS but picked up by VH1. A VH1 representative said a press release came out on Monday announcing "Armed & Famous" would be aired on their station instead of CBS, which showed it for three weeks.

Station moves antenna for better signal

The student-run WCRD radio station will attempt to gain a larger audience after it moves the antenna used to broadcast to the top of a 200-foot-tall smokestack at the heating plant on campus. Originally the antenna sat atop Southside High School, which is several miles from Ball State's campus.

A Ball State University freshman petitioning to have classes canceled Monday after the Super Bowl will be hosting a rally later this week.
