Ball State University's administration has experienced a mass exodus over the last few years. Our provost left. Our associate provost finished her last day on campus Wednesday. Randy Hyman has been a finalist for two positions at other universities. Now, Frank Sabatine, interim associate provost and a valuable part of the university for several years, is considering a position at another university.

Students attend liberal arts colleges like Ball State University for many reasons. One stands true for most: the opportunity to gain new experiences and learn more about a wide range of topics. By establishing clustered residence halls and isolating students within their intended majors, the university runs the risk of restricting students from this opportunity.

Housing clusters added for fall

Some students living in Ball State University residence halls will have more than their addresses in common Fall Semester. Incoming students will be clustered together in residence halls based on majors with the intent to improve the learning environment. Students majoring in communications fields at Ball State have been clustered together for the past five years, and Johnson Complex has operated in a similar arrangement with Honors College students for more than 20 years.

Some people live by the saying "the punishment should fit the crime." I don't agree with these people on all crimes, but it is true that some punishments could be changed for the better. For a simple example, think about the punishment for driving uninsured or without a valid drivers license.

TRACK: Seniors race at nationals

Two Ball State University seniors closed out their track careers on a national stage this weekend.-á Jill Scully and Jennifer McCoy represented the Cardinals at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Sacramento, Calif.-á McCoy completed her career at Ball State with a 27th place finish in the heptathlon on Saturday with a score of 4,167.

Two Ball State University students took home a gold Student Academy Award Saturday, marking the second consecutive year telecommunications students received this honor. Travis Hatfield and Samuel Day were awarded the top honor in alternative student-produced films from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their film "Perspective" during a ceremony in Los Angeles.
