SGA to vote on better recycling

Ball State University students might soon have a bigger opportunity to show their dedication to the environment. The Ball State University Student Government Association, along with Students for a Sustainable Campus, is working to pass three recycling legislations that would help Ball State keep up with other universities.

FOOTBALL: Company chosen to install artificial surface

Ball State University has chosen FieldTurf USA, Inc., to install the new playing surface at Scheumann Stadium. "We are extremely excited to have the installation of FieldTurf as a part of our project to renovate Scheumann Stadium," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins said in a release.

A lot of people accuse cartoons of being too violent. This may be true, but now people with dissenting views have a new argument: Maybe it's not the cartoons that are violent, but rather, the cartoon characters themselves. Earlier this year at Walt Disney World in Florida, an actor dressed as Tigger was accused of punching a 14-year-old boy in the face and was subsequently suspended.

Despite suffering one of the worst seasons in school history, the No. 9 seed Ball State University's men's basketball team feels like it could win in the Mid-American Conference tournament. "We still have life left in us," coach Ronny Thompson said.

SOFTBALL: Softball home-opener postponed to April 11

The home-opener for Ball State University's softball team has been postponed due to the condition of the field at the BSU Softball Complex. Coach Craig Nicholson said the field is too wet to play on this week and there is still some snow on the field. "We would have liked to have played this week but unless there was a miracle and it warmed up to 60 degrees, we knew it wasn't going to happen," Nicholson said.

Ball State Transportation and Student Government Association worked together to bring the Blue Loop to students east of campus this year. The loop was supposed to run from Jan. 8 to March 2 but was extended to the end of this week. The extension is due to good student response to the loop, John Boone, SGA treasurer, said.

Cardinals win 56-53

No. 1 seed Ball State University avenged a loss to No. 5 seed Western Michigan University two weeks ago, earning a 56-53 victory over the Broncos in the quarterfinal round of Tuesday's Mid-American Conference tournament. Ball State was led by junior forward Julie DeMuth, who scored 25 points and added 16 rebounds.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Junior finishes in top 18 at NCAA championships

Two divers for the Ball State University swimming and diving team competed at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships during the weekend, with one finishing in the top 18 in the 3-meter dive. Junior Stephanie Paul finished 18th in the 3-meter dive among the women with a score of 463.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State wins close matches

The Ball State University men's volleyball team lived dangerously in its two matches this weekend, but set itself up nicely for a big showdown against Ohio State University next weekend. On Friday, the Cardinals (10-6, 4-1 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) rallied from a 2-1 deficit against Quincy University, winning game four 30-27 and game five 15-8 (30-28, 26-30, 27-30, 30-27, 15-8).
