"Nigga," "Fag" and "B*#$%" are now more than just offensive terms: They are a springboard for discussion about labels and tolerances. Additionally, they are the title of an open forum hosted by the Multicultural Center for students to discuss derogatory terms used in everyday interactions.

Recruitment numbers less than in Fall 2005

With the end of formal sorority and fraternity recruitment, initial numbers show sororities are down 79 and fraternities are down 19 from last year. Both sororities and fraternities will continue to add new members, but fraternities hope they will get enough men to exceed last year's total.

Stretched design

Monday, junior Brandon Hoopingarner lounged on a rubbery bubble of latex at a reception in honor of a two-week-long workshop exploring architectural design. Ball State University architecture students displayed their latex creations at the Muncie Urban Design Studio after their workshop's leader, associate professor of architecture Frank Fantauzzi from State University of New York at Buffalo gave a presentation on his work.

University police continue investigating Burris vandalism

The University Police Department investigation continues in the Burris Laboratory School vandalism case from Sept. 12. Permanent damage was not done, but the locks on the doors to the electrical room and first floor offices were tampered with, leaving police unable to open them, Jay McGee, Burris principal and chairman, said.

The Carmel Police Department confiscated a Ball State University-issued central processing unit after the police executed a search warrant for the office of a university employee on Sept. 8, Glenn Augustine, senior director of University Communications, said.

WEST LAFAYETTE - There's no need to run the ball when your quarterback can slice up the defense through the air. Purdue University quarterback Curtis Painter had a field day, throwing all over Ball State University's secondary for 416 yards, leading the Boilermakers to a 38-28 victory at Ross-Ade Stadium Saturday.
