After redshirting last year to train for the 2008 Summer Olympics, Amber Williams will return to competition for the Ball State University track and field team Saturday. The Cardinals will open their 2009 indoor track and field season at the Bowling Green State University Challenge.

Bundled up in scarves, hats, gloves and coats, Ball State University students have been trying to stay warm from temperatures dipping below zero the last two days. Despite the freeze, Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said the university will not close because of cold weather.

Rajib Sanyal, an industrial and labor relations expert and former Northern Michigan University dean, has been appointed dean of the Miller College of Business. Sanyal is scheduled to join Ball State University on June 1. "We are absolutely delighted," Provost Terry King said.

It has been more than 12 weeks since the Ball State University women's tennis team last competed against a collegiate opponent, a greatly needed time to recuperate from fall season injuries.. The winter cold has brought the Blue Loop shuttle back to campus to get students to class in warmth. Snow removal crews keep up with winter storm

Students were able to safely get around campus during Wednesday's snowstorm due to university snow removal crews. Department of Public Safety radio operator Eric Morrow said few accidents were reported on campus Wednesday despite constant snowfall. "People are driving safe," Morrow said.

Ease the job search

Students feeling discouraged by the economic situation can be comforted that Ball State University will have the same number of job fairs available to help them find jobs this spring as in previous semesters. James Mitchell, assistant director of the Career Center, said employers would still be looking at Ball State for candidates despite the recession.
